Dr. Susan Golden examines the enormous opportunity created by the growing number of people living longer lives to reconsider the traditional three-stage life course of “learn, earn, and retire” and embrace a new, multi-stage life course. In the time it takes you to read this, another twenty Americans will turn sixty-five. Over twelve thousand people a day are crossing that threshold, and that number will continue to grow.  

In her book, STAGE (Not Age), Dr. Golden discusses the significant changes in lifespan and healthspan over the past century, and the many innovation needs and opportunities for the new 100-year life. She discusses “Furtherhood”, and why the gift of living longer is looking forward. Rethinking your purpose and how older adults can continue to contribute to our communities and society, are critical components of longer healthspans.  

Dr. Golden holds a doctorate in science from Harvard Chan School of Public Health, attended Harvard Business School, and was a Distinguished Careers Institute fellow at Stanford University. She currently is a Lecturer at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and an expert on innovation and the unique entrepreneurial opportunities that longer lives present.
