A San Francisco Public Library card will give you free access to:
- Books, magazines, movies and music. You can even download content to your own devices!
- eResources including language courses, online tutoring and more
- Museum and attraction passes
- Public computers, Wi-Fi, printing
How to Get a Library Card
Apply online (or fill out and print the paper application) and then present a valid photo ID in-person at any SFPL location to receive a library card.
- People ages 13-18 can show valid ID or have a parent / guardian sign.
- A parent / guardian must sign for anyone under age 13.
The Library does not issue library cards online. Visit in-person to pick a design and get your card.
- Teacher Card for educators living or working in SF
- Scholar Card for SFUSD students and students enrolled in other San Francisco charter, independent and parochial schools
- Visitor Card for non-residents
- Library by Mail for City residents who are unable to leave home due to a permanent disability.

Get your PIN and get started. Your library card and PIN are used to access your online account.
After you get your PIN, start borrowing! Here’s everything you need to know about how many items you can check out and for how long, including Interlibrary Loans (ILL) and LINK+.
Forgot your PIN? No problem! You can reset it.
We recommend registering for Bibliocommons, our online catalog, to help you track your checkouts and discover new titles. If you are logging into this account for the first time, you will need to enter your 14-digit card number (username) and PIN/password (password).
