Monday, 3/10/2025
2:00 - 3:00

Explore the exciting world of automotive technology, where hands-on skills meet problem-solving in an ever-evolving industry. In this session, Julia Johnson, an automotive technology instructor at City College of San Francisco, provides an inside look at the daily tasks of an automotive technician and the diverse career paths available, from general repair to specialized roles.

Johnson discusses key entry points into the field, including vocational training and the importance of ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification. She also covers essential skills for success and common challenges technicians face, such as managing customer relationships and keeping up with new automotive technologies.

Whether you're exploring a career change or looking to expand your knowledge, this session offers valuable insights into the automotive industry.

Julia Johnson (BA, San Francisco State University) is an ASE-certified automotive technician who has worked in a variety of repair shops. She is currently an automotive technology professor at Skyline College where she teaches the Engine Repair and Rebuilding class, the Entry Level Technician class and teaches weekend automotive classes for women.
