Junto con su madre Lucía, los hermanos Max y Leo acaban de cruzar la frontera de México a Estados Unidos en busca de una vida mejor. Y también comparten un sueño: visitar Disneyland algún día. Pero no es fácil para ellos afianzarse en su nuevo hogar. Mientras Lucía intenta financiar su nueva vida haciendo trabajos esporádicos, los hermanos pasan sus días en su piso de una sola habitación construyendo un universo imaginario con sus dibujos y pensando en la promesa de mamá de ir a Disneylandia.

Together with their mother Lucia, the brothers Max and Leo have just crossed the border from Mexico into the United States in search of a better life. And they share a dream as well: To visit Disneyland one day. But it is not easy for them to gain a foothold in their new home. While Lucía tries to finance their new life by doing odd jobs, the brothers spend their days in their one-room flat building an imaginary universe with their drawings and thinking about mom's promise of going to Disneyland.
