Color as Creation is an exploration and introduction to the world of Natural Dyes. Learn about local plants in the SF Bay Area that yield beautiful colors and ways in which you can access the natural world around you in an urban environment. Program includes a presentation on ethical foraging practices with hands on examples dyed materials and experiments in color shifting natural dyes.

Ocean Escalanti (She/Her) is an indigenous artist and writer residing in Oakland, CA. She is a natural dye enthusiast foraging locally for plants in her area and can be found using them for pressing pigments into fibers. Ocean has an arts practice in printmaking and textile art showing work in museums and galleries around the SF Bay Area. She self-publishes poetry, illustration, and natural dye how-to zines to vend across the West Coast as various zinefests and craft fairs.
