When it comes to green, we practice what we preach; see Climate Action Plan 2011 (PDF). San Francisco Public Library diverts nearly 80 percent of its waste from landfills through recycling and composting. The Main Library has had an energy efficiency makeover. All buildings are cleaned using green products. And staff are encouraged and rewarded for using alternative forms of transportation such as mass transit, bicycles, carpools and walking.
